This group, sponsored by the PEN America Foundation under a Pen Bingham fellowship is conducted by Manil Suri and Monica Hill. It has the goal of introducing people to international fiction written in English, and is specifically aimed towards those who are not native speakers of English. Participants do not have to be enrolled at Montgomery College to join, and reading materials will be provided without cost.

The inaugural meeting for the spring semester was held on January 21, 2003. Regular meetings were held on the following Thursdays at 7:15 p.m in Room SP 101:

Reading materials are available at the class or in advance from Professor Monica Hill (Rm 212, Pavilion of Fine Arts) at the Takoma Park Campus. Please see this page for updated information.

Some of the selections from which excerpts have been chosen are `Krik Krak' by Edwige Danticat, `The Death of Vishnu' by Manil Suri, and `House of Sand and Fog' by Andre Dubus III.

The book for the spring semester was `Girl with a Pearl Earring' by Tracy Chevalier. Copies of books are distributed free of charge so please come to a meeting.
