Muruhan Rathinam joined UMBC in the fall of 2002.
His broad research interests encompass
the study of nonlinear dynamical systems in many forms
(deterministic/stochastic, controlled/uncontrolled) and their numerical
approximation. His current research
particularly focuses on two application areas:
stochastic chemical kinetics and stochastic models
in financial markets.
Muruhan Rathinam holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from
Caltech. His thesis research was concerned with the
application of differential geometry to characterize certain properties
of nonlinear control systems. He has held postdoctoral positions
at Caltech (1997-1999) and at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB)
(1999-2002).
During his stay at UCSB he mostly worked on reduced order
modeling of large scale systems of ODEs and during the
last year of his stay at UCSB he embarked
on his current research area of stochastic chemical kinetics.
