Dr. Nanes earned his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in 2009, after which he stayed on as a Visiting Assistant Professor for the next two years. During his time at Northwestern, he was the recipient of the Department Award for Teaching Excellence. His research is in the field of Dynamical Systems, focusing on Partial Hyperbolicity and Smooth Ergodicity.
