Osman Guler is a mathematician specializing in finite dimensional optimization, with special interest in convex optimization and computational complexity of optimization algorithms. His research up to now have been mainly in interior-point methods and maximal monotone operators. In interior-point methods, his research has been in structured classes of convex optimization problems such as linear programming, linear and monotone complementarity problems, homogeneous cone programming, and hyperbolic cone programming. He introduced Jordan algebras, homogeneous convex cones, T-algebras, and hyperbolic polynomials into optimization. His research in maximal monotone operators have been on proximal-point methods and applications to interior-point methods. For more details, see Professor Guler's web site. Professor Guler has held visiting positions at the University of Iowa and Technical University of Delft before coming to UMBC. He has also been a visiting professor at Bilkent University.
