Professor Bell is a biomathematician, with a special interest in the
development and analysis of mathematical models describing electrical
behavior in nerve cells. Research has included effects of spatially
non-uniform properties on impulse conduction, ephaptic transmission,
threshold behavior in myelinated axons, mechanical-to electrical
transduction in hair cells and skin receptors, and inverse problems in
neural fibers. For more details, see Professor Bell's web site. Professor
Bell has taught at Texas A&M University and the State University of New
York, Buffalo before coming to UMBC. He has been a visiting researcher at
Oxford University, Heriot-Watt University, and the National Institutes of
Health. He has served as Department Chair at both SUNY, Buffalo and UMBC.
