The Department invites applications for at least one tenure-track or visiting faculty position in Statistics starting in the Fall of 2008 at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in an area of statistics, an active, independent research program, strong potential for obtaining external funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record of applications-oriented research. Although all areas will be considered, special consideration will be given to those who have the potential to make strong theoretical and interdisciplinary contributions, emphasizing biological and biomedical applications. While this position is contingent on availability of funds, exceptional applicants of higher rank will also be considered.

The Department offers BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in statistics and in applied mathematics. Refer to the Department's web page (http://www.math.umbc.edu) for more information.
