Ongoing Research Projects:

• Modeling of short pulse laser systems. Joint work with Curtis Menyuk (CSEE, UMBC) and several experimentalists.
  
  
• Modeling and experiments of optical fiber systems, including studies of both fiber transmission and optical receivers. Joint work with Curtis Menyuk, Gary Carter, Li Yan, and students in CSEE, UMBC. [These projects received NSF funding up until 2007.]
  
  
• Computational modeling of quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy sensors. Joint work with Mathematics Graduate student Noemi Zakarias together with Anatoliy Kosterev in the Laser Science Group at Rice University, Sue Minkoff (Math and Stat, UMBC) and Curtis Menyuk (CSEE, UMBC). Undergraduate Mike Reid is also contributing to the project. [This project is sponsored by the NSF Engineering Research Center on Mid-InfraRed Technologies for Health and the Environment (MIRTHE).]
  
  
• Analysis of anatomical surfaces: Curvature of discrete surfaces with boundary, diffeomorphic mean curvature flow, correlations between anatomical structure and neurological function. Joint work with Laurent Younes, Tilak Ratnanather, Sirong Zhang and Michael Miller in the Center for Imaging Science at The Johns Hopkins University and UMBC Undergraduate Researchers.
  
  
• Statistics on Manifolds. Joint work with Anindya Roy (Math and Stat, UMBC) and Statistics Graduate student Justin Jacobs.

PhoSSiL: Photonics Systems Simulator Library is a library of C++ codes written by John Zweck, Curtis Menyuk and members of the Optical Fiber Communications Laboratory to simulate photonics systems including optical fiber communications systems and lasers. (PhoSSiL was formely know as OCS.)
